Cognitive poetics children’s literature mystical image

Mystical and psychological images are essential elements of children's literature because they shape readers' emotional and imaginative understanding of fictional worlds. This article examines Susan Hill’s “I’m the King of the Castle” and Khudoyberdi Tukhtaboyev’s “Riding the Yellow Giant” from the perspective of cognitive poetics. The analysis focuses on how symbolic settings, fantastic figures, and child consciousness generate literary meaning. While Hill constructs psychological tension through Gothic imagery, Tukhtaboyev develops mystical images through folklore and fantasy. Despite their different cultural backgrounds, both novels employ similar cognitive mechanisms that enable readers to interpret symbolic images. The study highlights the value of cognitive poetics in comparative research on English and Uzbek children’s literature.
