SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN KHADI PRODUCTION: AN ASSESSMENT

Rajnish Nagore , Department of Fabric and Apparel Science, Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi, Sikandra Road, Mandi House, New Delhi, India

Abstract

Khadi, a hand-spun and hand-woven fabric, holds immense cultural and historical significance in India. However, conventional production processes can raise environmental concerns. This paper explores the potential of sustainable practices in Khadi manufacturing. We assess various eco-friendly methods throughout the production chain, examining areas like organic farming for raw materials, the use of natural dyes, and efficient water and energy management. By evaluating the effectiveness of these approaches, the research aims to contribute to a more sustainable future for Khadi production. This, in turn, can bolster the economic viability of the industry while minimizing its environmental impact.
