Gestalt theory provides a theoretical foundation for understanding how individuals organize visual information, recognize relationships among visual elements, and construct meaningful perceptions. Its application to art education offers opportunities to strengthen visual literacy, compositional awareness, creative interpretation, and the integration of perception with artistic practice. This paper examines the relevance of Gestalt principles to art education and visual learning through a qualitative, conceptual review of the 18 references supplied. The analysis focuses on perceptual organization, figure–ground relationships, visual grouping, closure, similarity, proximity, continuity, and the relationship between perception and artistic expression. It also develops a conceptual instructional framework connecting visual observation, perceptual analysis, artistic experimentation, reflective interpretation, and assessment. The synthesis suggests that Gestalt-oriented instruction can help learners understand how visual components interact to produce coherent artistic compositions and how perceptual organization influences interpretation. However, its effectiveness depends on pedagogical context, learner experience, cultural interpretation, and the balance between perceptual structure and creative freedom. As a conceptual review, the paper does not claim empirical validation or causal effects. It establishes a theoretically grounded framework for future classroom-based research and the systematic integration of Gestalt principles into art education.
